Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is a ClayBaby Impression?
A: A ClayBaby Impression is a ceramic wall hanging that displays the impression of your little ones' hands and/or feet. Each Impression is completely customizable. You select the type of impression, color(s), personalization, and if you'd like to add any enhancements such as a border, background design, or ceramic 3-dimensional add-on. Every impression is handcrafted, hand-painted, and kiln-fired twice to a high-gloss finish for a beautiful keepsake that will last a lifetime.
Q: How do I get a ClayBaby Impression made?
A: There are several ways you can have a ClayBaby Impression made:
1) Schedule and appointment at my home studio and I will take your little one's impression. Please call 269-743-9740 to schedule your appointment.
2) Schedule a time for Creative Clayworks to come to you. If you live in the Portage/Kalamazoo area, I can take your child(ren)'s impression in the comfort of your own home. A small travel fee based on distance and time from my studio will be charged. Please call 269-743-9740 to schedule an appointment or if you would like to know the fee to come to your location.
3) Order a Take Home Impression Kit on-line and do the impression in your own home. These Gift Kits make the perfect unique and personal gift for a baby shower or new parent! Follow the easy enclosed instructions, complete your order form (gift recipients have an opportunity to customize their order using the enclosed order form), and then return everything using the pre-addressed box via US Postal Service and in about 8 weeks from the time I receive your impression you or the gift recipient will have the finished keepsake.
4) Plan an Impression Party in your home. Plan a gathering with 4 or more friends and schedule to have Creative Clayworks come to you (a minimum of four ClayBaby Impressions orders should be placed). No travel fee will be charged, and the hostess will receive a free hand or foot impression ornament. You may also purchase the number of kits needed on-line two weeks before your party, then return the impressions and custom order forms via US Postal Service. (If you live in the Kalamazoo/Portage area, I'd be happy to drop the kits off as well as pick them up to save you the shipping costs.) In Approximately 8 weeks, your finished keepsakes will be ready.
Q: Is there an age limit for ClayBaby Impressions?
A: There is no age limit for scheduled impression appointments with me. I will need to know the age of the children (or if an adult will be having an impression taken) so I will know how much material to bring. Because of the special presentation and packaging of the impression material of the ClayBaby Impression Kits there is an age/size limit. The hand or foot must be able to lie flat in the impression material. At this time, Gift Kits are available for Single, Double, Ornament Sets, and Birth Announcement Tiles with Double Impressions for ages newborn to children 3 to 4 years (the longest measurement of the hand or foot must measure 5 1/4 inches or less). Gift Kits are also available for Quad Impressions and Birth Announcement Tiles with Quad Impressions for newborns up to infants 3 months of age (the longest measurement of the hand or foot must measure less than 4 inches).
Q: How long does an appointment take?
A: It only takes about 15 minutes to fill out an order form, make your customization selections, and take the actual impression(s).
Q: Is the clay you use for the initial impression the final product?
A: No. The clay used for the original impression is a very soft, clean, non-toxic, impression material that takes beautifully detailed prints and can be rerolled until you are happy with your impression. No mixing and no mess. *Allergy alert: please note the impression material does contain wheat. Your final keepsake is handcrafted from fine white ceramic clay that is kiln-fired twice to a high-gloss finish.
Q: Can I order multiple ClayBaby Impressions?
A: Yes! Once your original imprint is made, my studio process allows me to make as many ClayBaby Impressions as you'd like (they make wonderful gifts). I also keep your original print for 1 year so you can order more Impressions within the year without having to re-print your infant or child saving time and money. When ordering, select "I've had an impression taken within the last year and would like to order another".
Q: Why do I have to wait 24 hours for an invoice?
A: Because a majority of Creative Clayworks creations are custom-designed and customers order multiple items, email invoicing through PayPal allows me to review your order and provide you with the least expensive shipping cost available. If you are ordering an Impression Kit or Gift Kit, your kit will ship Priority Mail within 2 business days (usually arriving within 2 to 3 business days from ship date). Spam filters may prevent emails from CreativeClayworks and PayPal. If you have not received notification from CreativeClayworks and/or PayPal within 24 hours, please check your spam filter and add to your address book as needed.
Q: How long will it be before I receive my finished product?
A: All of Creative Clayworks creations are handcrafted and hand-painted upon your order and work will commence once payment has been received via PayPal. Hanging Plaques, Magnetic Message Boards, Personalized Birth Announcement Tiles and Picture Frames typically take 6 to 8 weeks to complete depending on the time of year (summer & holidays such as Mother's Day, Father's Day, and Christmas are higher volume times). ClayBaby Impressions take approximately 8 weeks from the time I receive your imprint at the studio.
Q: Why is the shipping for the ClayBaby Impression kits so expensive?
A: ClayBaby Impression kits and the final impressions are shipped Priority Mail. The fifteen dollar shipping cost covers not only the kit but also the shipment of the final ClayBaby Impression to you or the gift recipient (two shipments). Unfortunately it is cost prohibitive for CreativeClayworks to cover the cost of shipping the imprints (taken in the home using the kit) back to CreativeClayworks, so that shipping cost is your responsibility or that of the gift recipient (typically five to eight dolloars depending on location).
